“Challenges and Opportunities When Facing an Ageing Workforce –
A Learning Perspective” - Brussels, Thursday 19th March, 2009.

Throughout Europe, public and private organisations and governments are facing a paradox :·

  • Demographically, there is an increase in the average age of the economically active population and to cover the increased costs of pensions and social security, the working life needs to become longer.·
  • But, over recent years, as a result of competitive pressure, the continuous lowering of the age of retirement, and of age discrimination in the labour market, so called “ageism”, many people over 40 are regarded, and regard themselves, as nearing the end of their working lives.

How do we deal with this from an organisation design and learning perspective ?

In partnership with a Flemish HR network organisation call VOV, of which Marc Alen and Janssen Pharmaceutica are both members, E.C.L.O. is delighted to announce a one-day workshop to explore this issue.

During this workshop we hope to explore various questions :

  • Does learning change with age?
  • What happens, or has happened, to old-fashioned wisdom?
  • Does innovation, creativity and motivation change with age?
  • Is the often mentioned solution ‘the older will coach the younger’ feasible? Are the older ready and willing to coach, and are the younger ready and willing to be coached?
  • How do we design our learning processes to cope with an increasingly age diverse audience?
