This project is led by E.C.L.O. and supported by the EU’s LEONARDO surveys and analysis programme. Two of the European Union’s major policy concerns are interwoven into this research project. By establishing concrete empirical evidence of enterprise level change programmes, the project links the concept of social partnership between employers and trade unions as well as human resource development within programmes of organisational change. The project’s innovative approach is to ensure that industrial relations cultures, institutions and systems are examined in relation to people and organisational development issues.
The project is examining the changing nature of relationships between employers and trade unions for organisational change. What are the types of social partnerships that enable effective human resource development and also create dynamic social partnerships for competitive advantage? In-depth case studies of an automotive, a banking and a telecommunications company in each of UK, Sweden, Germany and Italy are being produced as well as sectorial, national and a consolidated analyses.
The project results will inform good practice in social partnerships and the involvement of trade unions in human resource and organisational development issues.
The scientific leader of the project is Peter Cressey of the University of Bath who is one of Europe’s leading experts on employee involvement.
