Józefa Fawcett Receives Prestigious HR Leadership Award

Józefa Fawcett, ECLO's Secretary-General, has been awarded the prestigious "UK 2009 Leadership Award" from the World Human Resource Development Congress. This is an extract from the announcement.

“The World HRD Congress is located in Mumbai, India, and believes in assessing and measuring HR leadership, communicating the brand to a business’s many stakeholders and preserving the position of HR in the marketplace. The World HRD Congress is governed by a Global Advisory Council which guides the strategic intent of the congress to its logical success. With regards the HR Leadership Award, your leadership and contribution to the field of HR is well known. The position that you occupy in the fraternity is strategic and iconic. As a thinker and doer you are a role model and a believer in change. On behalf of the Chairman and Advisory Council, I am pleased to write to you that we wish to confer the "UK 2009 HR LEADERSHIP AWARD" to you at the World HRD Congress. This is an appreciation for your good work and contribution to HR”.

The award was presented to her by Ulrich Schweiker, member of the World HRD Global Advisory Council and ECLO Executive Board Member during the recent ECLO-VOV workshop in Brussels.

In her acceptance speech, Józefa said

"I feel honoured to be one of only two people chosen from the UK to receive this award especially as the selection process was undertaken by my HRD peers from around the world.  I am driven by the desire to educate businesses about the added-value that can be gained from high quality and timely learning and development.  Evidence shows that done well, training and organisational learning improves the quality of workforce performance which of course leads to an increase in the business ‘bottom-line’.  As a learning specialist I work hard to raise the profile of HRD in business through effective instructional design, cognitive mapping, evaluation, learning dissemination and quality assurance using quality standards such as ISO 10015 and EFQM.  I continue with this goal, aware of the fact that in these times of recession and budgetary constraints, many organisations are considering the reduction or removal of their training provision altogether - a dangerous move that offers only a short-term financial solution, storing up longer-term workforce capacity and capability issues for the eventual future upturn and recovery"
