Editorial
This is the last E-Learner before Brian Taylor takes over as its new Editor. I have enjoyed launching this new initiative that should grow in its content and add further value to you. I look forward to Brian's contributions to our learning with the satisfaction that it is in good hands. If you would like to contribute an article or know of interesting web-based material please let us know.
I had produced a short-list of three thoughts for this month but could not choose between them. So, as a parting gift, I leave you with not one, but all three: the exhortation by Mark twain to dream on; the definition of a full-life by Oscar Wilde and the definition of wisdom by William Cowper are all quotations that I have come across recently and enjoyed and I offer them for no other reason than I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
New E-mail address
We have changed ECLO's e-mail address info@eclo.org please ensure you change the properties in your address book. Messages to the old address eclo@euronet.be will not be delivered.
From the new Editor
In a moment of complete euphoria, during the ECLO Munich Conference, I was pleased to hear from Mike Kelleher that E.C.L.O. would be seeking a new editor for future issues of
the E-learner. In the light of Mike's success in launching and sustaining the E-learner, I put this news in my "Challenges for the New Millennium" portfolio - a difficult act to follow indeed.
Member's contributions to future issues, will be met with extreme delight and can be emailed 'direct' to me at the following address: btaylor@everyway.telme.comTo set the scene for the next issue of E-Learner I would like Members, or indeed any interested parties, to consider the following topic - brief responses would be appreciated to the
following question:
"What circumstances would you find it inappropriate to MOTIVATE others ?" (Case Studies welcome !)Watch this Space !

As I am currently working as a consultant for organizations on learning and leadership and also teach at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid on the same subjects, I believe that being informed and updated on developments in these areas will improve my skills.

New survey shows 'Emotional Intelligence can be learned'
The Talent Foundation has published the results of the first
phase of its study into the role of Emotional Intelligence in
learning. The survey, which was announced by Talent Foundation
CEO Dr Javier Bajer in his interview with TrainingZONE last
month, builds on a study conducted earlier this year which showed
that individuals with high Emotional Intelligence were
significantly more proactive towards learning than those from a
control group. http://www.trainingzone.co.uk/cgi-bin/item.cgi?id=19000&d=1

Presentation materials and lessons learnt will be available on July 15 on our website (www.eclo.org)
Louise Nielsen's louni@ipp.liu.se writes:In comparison with ECLO 1998 I experienced the following improvements:
- Mix of people, with regard to age and sex, which made the discussions and
the atmosphere more lively and supported understanding of diversity.
- Company visits, to vary the learning experiences and by that learn more
effectively.
- The premises, which were spacious, light and airy.
- A visionary speech. I was totally absorbed by the speech of Göran
Carstedt. He had visions to share, was positive, engaged and he sent out
energy and humanistic values. I experience a lack of visions in many
companies (by now I have experienced quite a few). Or perhaps there are
some, but we are not very good at communicating them.
What more.......the organising of the conference was
