Tony Blair, Prime
Minister of Britain, has announced that Paul Boateng, the current
Chief Secretary to the Treasury, will be appointed High
Commissioner to South Africa. Paul Boateng recently met one of
ECLO members, Rudi Page and this is what he said :-
"Last
week at the House of Commons I met Rudi Page, a consultant for
Statecraft and Barbara Cheltenham, a teacher at Leopold Primary
School in London, who are engaged in a remarkable and
ground-breaking project to bring Soweto and Willesden closer
together. By twinning Leopold Primary School and Belle Primary
School in Soweto, the people behind this project are creating a
bond of friendship, learning and mutual support across continents.
It will benefit not only the pupils of Soweto, in terms of help
raising funds and bringing in modern classroom technology, but
also Willesden, who will have a new and unique window on the
world.
Rudi Page and Leopold Primary School have already got a
promise from a company that makes interactive whiteboards to
provide them for Belle Primary School and I am lending my support
to their future fundraising efforts.
The links between Belle Primary School and Leopold Primary School
are examples of just how learning and support between Britain and
Africa can make a real difference for future generations. It is a
model I am wholeheartedly behind."
